BJJ Open Mat — Privacy Policy
BJJ Open Mat ("the App", "we", "us") helps Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners discover open-mat training sessions near them, check in, and connect with gyms. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. By using the App you agree to this policy.
Information we collect

How we use your information
- Operate core features: discovering, submitting, and checking in to open mats.
- Authenticate you and keep your account secure.
- Show your profile (name, belt, etc.) to other users where you participate.
- Respond to bug reports and feature requests you send us.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the App.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
Service providers
We share data only with providers that process it on our behalf to run the App:
- Auth0 (Okta) — authentication and login.
- MongoDB Atlas — database storage.
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) — application hosting and file storage.
- Google Maps Platform — maps, geocoding, and place lookup.
- OpenAI — transcription of voice recordings you submit in bug/feature reports.
Location data
Location is used only while the App is in use and only to find nearby open mats and validate check-ins. We do not track your location in the background. You can revoke location access at any time in your device's Settings; some features (such as "open mats near me") will be limited without it.
Data retention
We keep your account and content for as long as your account is active. Voice recordings submitted in reports are retained only as long as needed to address the report. You can request deletion of your account and associated personal data (see below).
Your rights and choices
- Access & update — view and edit your profile in the App.
- Deletion — request deletion of your account and personal data by emailing us at the address below; we will delete it within a reasonable period, except where retention is legally required.
- Permissions — control location, microphone, and photo access in your device Settings.
Children's privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will remove it.
Security
We use industry-standard measures, including encryption in transit, to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above.
